What the Kiwi gossip mags say

Celebrities say the daftest, dumbest and downright dopiest things ever, and this week they’re happily outdoing themselves.

Yep, there are plenty of quotable quotes in the gossip mags, and one of the best comes from Kirstie Alley, whose weight balloons up and deflates down as often as a well used blow-up doll.

Woman’s Day reports the former-fatty-then-skinny-and-now-quite-huge-again actress has been “irresponsible” and – thanks to a love affair with wontons, popcorn  and “a lot of butter” – is tipping the scales at 105 kilograms.

But watch out, folks – Alley wants to be “ripped” and wearing a bikini again by November. Will she be a bikini babe or a beached whale?

“I’ve loathed myself,” Alley told Oprah Winfrey. “If I had a whip I’d probably whip myself and, I don’t know, maybe that would feel good.”

Sounds like you’ve been whipping something, Kirstie. Was it two-litres of cream, by any chance?

She’s not the only celeb opening her mouth and saying inappropriate things.

Former Shortland Street star Stephanie Tauevihi tells Woman’s Weekly Jade Goody’s death from cervical cancer inspired her to have a smear test. A wise move, especially after they found “abnormal cell changes”.

But then Tauevihi says this: “I went for a Samoan nurse. She was asking about when I filmed the TV One show Intrepid Journeys and all the time she was going on a bit of an intrepid journey of her own down there.”

Eww. Did she need a shovel and a pickaxe?

Elsewhere, fellow former Shorties star Sonia Gray unveils her twins to WD, and we’re not talking about her newborn daughters, Thandie and Inez.

The Wheel of Fortune letter-turner tells WD she’s had to give up jogging after growing from a C-cup to an F-cup thanks to her double pregnancy – and she’s not happy about it.

Has Dolly Parton sent her congratulations?

“I don’t really like it that much,” Gray tells WD. “When my breasts first got big I thought, ‘These things get in the way of everything’. I’ve tried to run (between) a few lamp posts recently, but even with a sports bra it’s a liability.”

Perhaps swimming would be a better exercise to take up – if you can find togs that fit.

Then there’s Beverley Rokocoko, the wife of All Black winger Joe, who recently gave birth to their, er, cuddly son Cypress. But she had to get past Rokocoko’s adoring fans first.

“We got to Middlemore Hospital at 8am and heaps of people started coming up and asking for Joe’s signature,” Beverly tells WW.

“I didn’t want to be rude but I felt like yelling, ‘This is not the time to be asking for an autograph’.”

You would be well within your rights, Beverley. Doing poos and giving birth are two occasions autograph hunters should respect by backing off. Everything else is fair game.

Finally, the quote of the week comes from Beyonce, who claims she used to be chubbalicious: “When I was around 10 or 11, I was really chubby. My family used to all lie me down flat so that they could zip up my jeans. It would take four of them and I would lie there on the bed while they all got to work on it.”

So that’s how she got so good at bouncing her booty around. Here comes the ‘getting my jeans on’ dance craze.

Slumdog star’s home is demolished

Azharuddin’s mother: “They did not inform us. No notice was given to us.”

The Mumbai slum home of one of the child stars of the Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire has been demolished by city authorities.

Reports say that police smacked the boy, Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail, with a bamboo stick before ordering him out.

The authorities claim he and other families were squatting on land that was owned by the government.

He played a younger version of one of the main characters in the film, which scooped eight Oscars.

“We are homeless, we have nowhere to go,” Azharuddin said after the demolition.

The family lived in a temporary makeshift shelter made up of plastic sheets over bamboo sticks, in a slum near Bandra East in Mumbai.

He said he had been fast asleep when the demolition squad came and asked them to leave, later tearing down the entire row of tents pitched on the land.

The family claim they had not been informed about the planned demolition.

Municipal official, Uma Shankar Mistry, who was present during the demolition, told the BBC that the authorities only razed temporary and illegal homes which had recently been erected next to the slum.

He said the houses were in an area that was meant for a public garden.

Housing promise

The mother of the child actor said that she did not know what would happen to her family now and that the help promised by local authorities and by the film’s makers had not materialised.

“Our house has been broken down by officials. We have not been given any alternate accommodation. Earlier the authorities had said they would give us a house. But I don’t think that will happen any more,” Shamim Ismail told the BBC.

The families of Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail and co-star Rubina Ali, who played a younger version of the film’s female lead, had been promised new accommodation by a local housing authority.

But a decision about whether or not this will go ahead is still pending.

Film director Danny Boyle has strongly denied charges of exploitation.

The film’s makers have set up funds to pay for their education and they have been enrolled in school for the first time.

They also recently announced that they will donate £500,000 to a charity which will help children living in the slums of Mumbai.

The film has made more than $200m (£140m) in box office takings around the world.

He says Jordan’s out of control – but who’s to blame for the split?

May 13, 2009 :: Posted by - Amalia :: Category - Celebrity Gossip

Katie Price and Peter Andre are set to get divorced after four and a half years of marriage – but who is to blame for the split?

Glamour model Katie said: “I am devastated. It was his decision. I will always love him.”

And it seems she is the worse affected – Peter is her life, and they have children together. Katie fled England yesterday after the divorce was announced publicly.

According to the ‘Daily Mail’ it has not been confirmed where she has gone.

Peter Andre said that their relationship took a turn for the worse when he could no longer look after his wife, who he described as “out of control”.

British newspaper ‘The Sun’ quoted the singer as saying: “When she drinks she’s capable of anything. The devil gets inside her and she’s a nightmare. I trust her when she is sober but not when she’s drunk.”

Katie has been spotted flirting with men whilst out drinking in recent weeks.

The ‘Mirror’ revealed that her flirting appeared to be the final straw of an increasingly fragile relationship when the pair had a screaming match during filming in LA for their reality TV show, ‘Katie and Peter: Stateside’.

So which one of the two is more famous in the US? The sad fact is that neither of them are. Jordan told Pete: “Nobody knows who you are, you’re an old f***ing singer.”

Peter will have to cope with the fact that she never wants to speak to him again.

The couple met in 2004 on British TV show ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here’ and married in the same year.

They have two children together, Andre junior (3) and Princess Tiaamii (nearly 2) and raise Harvey (6) who is Jordan’s son from a previous marriage. Just last week there were rumours that the couple were planning to have another child.

Teri Hatcher’s mean struggle

Teri Hatcher found it “difficult to be mean” while working on ‘Coraline’.

According to director Henry Selick, the ‘Desperate Housewives’ star could not bring herself to shout at her on-screen daughter Dakota Fanning – even though the pair were only voicing characters for the animated adventure.

He said: “Teri’s fantastic. She has a lot of range. The main thing with Teri was that it was difficult for her to be mean, because she has a great daughter and could never be that way to her own daughter.”

In the family adventure animation – which stars Dakota as the title character – Teri voiced the role of Coraline’s mother and her evil alter-ego Other Mother.

Despite struggling with the role initially, Henry – who also directed ‘James and the Giant Peach’ and ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ – says Teri quickly settled into the part.

He explained: “She was ready to take charge of the Other Mother at her most wicked and most evil. I think that was the most fun for her.”

Meanwhile, Henry was also impressed with 15-year-old Dakota’s professionalism.

He added to DigitalSpy: “I met with her one-on-one and it was fantastic – a young girl pulling at her hair and acting like a kid but talking like a seasoned pro. She brings an incredible range in her performance and believability. She’s very likeable without being sickly sweet and also very inspirational to the animators.”

Paid to party

May 12, 2009 :: Posted by - Amalia :: Category - Celebrity Gossip

sipho

I really love new South African movies because it’s not that often we get to see people we can actually relate to on the big screen.

So, of course, I couldn’t miss the pre-release screening of White Wedding, which stars Rapulana Seiphemo and Kenneth Nkosi.

It was great to see singer Simphiwe Dana out. Her regal presence was still felt even when she was just chilling out in the corner with her friend during the snacks before the movie. But I guess if as an artist you don’t have a presence at all, you should quit the business and try your hand at something else.

Khumbul’ekhaya presenter Andile Carelse attended with her brother. She chatted about how surprised she was to find out that the length of the dress she wore at the South African Film and Television Awards a few months ago was such a big story.

I wondered why there were so many rappers from Skwatta Kamp at the do, then I found out that member Slikour’s company was also behind the screening. In the theatre, he decided to give a long and sincere speech before the movie started about how this was an opportunity for everyone to hang out.

It was sweet, but I think he went a little overboard when he started doing PR for his company (someone ended up having to grab the mike away from him). I guess he’s just generally got the gift of the gab.

Nevertheless, I loved the movie and recommend that everyone see it. It’s hilarious. — Ziphezinhle Msimango
